- Hedge Fund (usato anche in italiano) o anche noto (ma raramente usato) come Fondo di copertura: Strumenti d’investimento collettivo privato, attivi sui mercati finanziari globali, orientati a rendimenti assoluti e con l’obiettivo di ottenere la rivalutazione del capitale. Gli hedge fund impiegano diverse tecniche di investimento, non sono fortemente regolati e spesso accettano solo un numero ristretto di investitori, in modo da garantire che la loro strategia d'investimento resti flessibile. Gli hedge fund sono classificati non solo in base alle categorie d’investimento in cui investono (azioni, obbligazioni ecc.) oppure all’orientamento geografico o tematico, ma anche secondo le relative strategie (ad es. arbitraggio, macro, event driven o opportunistic).
