- A SALUTOGÉNESE – O PARADIGMA DA PROMOÇÃO DA SAÚDE Apreocupação com os problemas de saúde das populações, não é recente e está, naturalmente, relacionada com a evolução do conceito de saúde ao longo dos tempos. Com vimos, esta preocupação, durante séculos, esteve centrada em torno da doença, e limitou-se a uma atitude de aceitação passiva, já que a saúde era encarada numa perspectiva teológica. As medidas implementadas para preservar a saúde limitaram-se durante séculos à repressão, segregação e abandono dos doentes. O desconhecimento sobre a etiologia da doença humana conduziu durante longos anos à ausência de uma consciência colectiva da saúde e da doença. Como vimos atrás, só no século XX foi posta em evidência a etiologia multi-factorial das doenças crónicas, como o cancro, a diabetes, as doenças cardiovasculares etc, e a influência que neste tipo de doenças têm os factores ambientais e comportamentais e não apenas biológicos.
