- Isolation is a health care term that means keeping infected people away from the uninfected. Self-isolation means staying indoors and completely avoiding contact with other people. This is required of all people who have been in contact with known infected people, who have traveled from high risk zones, who have any related symptoms or who have tested positive for the virus. HSE
