Convenção teatral para referir uma fala marginal que uma personagem dirige, em regra, para o público, reflectindo um pensamento ou comentário que convém esconder das restantes personagens. Não deve ser confundido com o monólogo. Foi amplamente utilizado no teatro renascentista, sobretudo para permitir às personagens confessar reservadamente sentimentos muito pessoais.
