Once upon a time, this was a traditional marketplace, the kind where people discuss and do business at the same time just like it used to be in all towns and cities before the time of economically efficient but socially destructive self-services and self-discounts, which have contributed to self-isolation and self-alienation in a profit-driven world which topmost point might well be self-destruction.
All the signs were there, and what was to happen did happen... the climate change in this place is obvious, it has grown up and now business by itself sticks people together, no need for a gluing agent, no need for a growth guiding column, no need for a fertilizer, money calls money and business is business... but social communities can't develop without generous, devoted, unselfish people like you Aurora.
And in this community you are a myth! When I tell colleagues living in France or in Spain that I have met you in person one common reaction is: BUT THEN, SHE REALLY EXISTS???
Y E S !!! F O R T U N A T E L Y!!
We can log out and you are still there, isn't this beautiful? ▲ Collapse | | |
I heard the news and had to be pointed to this thread because I don't visit the forums anymore.
I don't know the details of what happened but, knowing you, I'm sure you took the right decision, Au, so for that, CONGRATULATIONS!!!
There's life beyond proz...and it's wonderful!!!

I have no idea about what was or is going behind the scenes here.
Earlier this year I was hoping to see Aurora in person when she registered for the Budapest conference. I was really looking forward to this encounter as we had been in contact by infrequent emails for a long time. Eventually she could not come for personal reasons.
I still hope that I can meet her personally some time, some place.

When I first arrived to ProZ nearly 3 years ago, Au was the first person here to draw my attention. Not only because she was probably the most active poster in the Spanish forum, but because she talked openly on a whole range of issues of which I -a novice translator at the time- knew very little. But she also demonstrated that a translators' place can be more than asking how much should one charge or whether one should buy a CAT tool - there was also Spanish grammar, approaches to translation, ... As Saifa said, I won't miss Au because I know where to find her. But I just thought this is a very good moment to say a big THANK YOU.
Un beso, Au,

It is a sad moment having to say goodbye to Au...
Her comments, her articles, her postings... And her contributuions were not only a matter of quantity but of QUALITY (something which is not easy to find).
There are not many people who share so much of themselves freely and selflessly.
Not having her here anymore is a great loss to the site and to all of us.
A sad day...

I am really sorry to read this news, hopefully we will be able to continue reading your opinions somewhere else. Thank you for your efforts to improve the working situation and the self-esteem of many newbie translators, including me not so long ago. | | | I can't track Aurora | Aug 31, 2007 |
I found too many thigs about Aurora, it is difficult what is new, what is about translation, etc.
So far proz has been for me like a self sufficient island in the cyber-ocean. Although I visit and I am subscribed to many other translators sites, blogs, listings, etc. I always had the feeling that proz was all I needed.
Now that Aurora is gone the island feels smaller. But I fear that there will be no further islands but rocks and lighthouses.

Though I have no idea what this is all about, I'm sure Aurora must have had a very good reason to take this step.
Her contributions to the forums, both in Spanish and just about perfect English, have always been interesting, informative and to the point.
When I joined ProZ seven years ago, though my Spanish is not good, I ventured into the Spanish forum, where I was made to feel very welcome, particularly by Aurora. It just feels as if the site had been shut down!
When I first joined Proz, yours, Au, was the first welcome message I received.
When I registered for the conference at Buenos Aires and a couple of minutes later I received your personal message saying you were glad I would be coming, I just couln't believe you had taken the time to send it, in the midst of the logistic chaos you were in.
