English term
Add Formula Intake
English

Medical (general)
Nutrition
I am translating a website to which I do not have any access!!! I just have an XL spreadsheet to translate with a total lack of logic; you may have one row with the word "Homocystinuria" and the row below with "Please click"!!! There is no context whatsoever. I just know that the website has been developed to provide support to individuals with metabolic disorders. It also features an online shop and a food calculator.
How do you understand this "Formula intake"?
Does "formula" mean artificial milk for babies or could it be any kind of nutrient?
Does intake mean in this "context": "daily consumption", "serving" sth. else?
Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated
Cheers

wow, what a scenario for you Michel - if I were you I would contact the client to increase your chances of submitting an accurate translation.
As for you question, I would not assume formula is baby food unless the rest of your context, such as it is, leads you to believe that it is so.
If it's for people with a specific disorder, then you may (after contacting the client to be sure) go on the assumption that it is for adults taking a commercial preparation of some sort to deal with their problem.
Again, I must reiterate - do not assume, lest you make an ass of u and me !!!! LOL

: It's a specific diet, a form of dietary supplement (rich in Vitamin B6 etc), IMO, not only for babys but also adults (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homocystinuria section "Therapy").

formula is a prepared artifical milk (or in powder) for babies who are not being breast-fed.

not just milk
It can be another nutrient formula - supplementary nutrition, etc.; "formula intake" could be various things, I think, such as serving/portion, type of presentation/administration, etc.

as you mention "Homocystinuria", I'd say it's not likely to be infant (milk) formula, but an aminoacid supplement or something
Dr. Koop - Homocystinuria
Homocystinuria is an inherited disorder of the of the amino acid methionine.

OK, well, depending on how much detail the rest goes into, I'd think theat it might mean that Formula intake" means something like dosage, i.e. the amount/frequency of taking might even be specified in each "Intake formula" added - maybe!

Discussion
As for the assumption to be made, as I said, unless the whole doc refers to infants I would assume it's a commercial food preparation for adults. HTH
