English term

Setting

English Medical Medical (general) Public Health in India
Quality is extremely variable and highly dependant on the ****setting***.

About the quality of healthcare in India. Unfortunately nothing before or after to help.

How would you interpret setting here ? Geographical location ? Type of facility ? Type of population targeted ? ... Other ?

Thank you in advance.

Discussion

ErichEko ⟹⭐ Jul 21, 2006:
Rita, I agree that quality depends on many or even ALL factors. Yet, I bet the author was up to one or some of them when s/he wrote "the setting." Otherwise, s/he would be content with "extremely variable."
RHELLER Jul 21, 2006:
I wouldn't get hung up on the term "setting" - just think "it just depends" /there are many factors

The overall circumstances

Could include location, the population type, the type of facility, etc. All of the combined factors that contribute to making each individual situation unique.

agree Marie-Hélène Hayles : yes, it's so generic it could mean any or all of these

neutral Cilian O'Tuama : Hi Nancy, Just noticed your answer (2+5 mins) is "higher" than willmatter's (4 mins)? A buglet? (rhetorical)

Hm... his answer is above mine in the list above. Must look into it..
neutral ErichEko ⟹⭐ : willmatter's is higher because he gets more support; still yours is the first to be read; so don't be discouraged. :)
