English Bus/Financial Tourism & Travel Client testimonial
I am tranlating a brochure for a tour operator who specializes in sport event packages (Superbowl, World cup, Wimbledon...)

The first page of the brochure is only made from short testimonials from clients.

They usually look like that:

... It was fantastic ...
John, NY

The last one puzzles me! It looks like that:

“XXX is like...awesome!
...Cheerleader, Texas”
WA Guy(2005)
..and. San Diego, California

I did not change a coma, and the whole thing does not make sense for me... (I just found that WA Guy is a painter sponsored by this Tour operator)

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Discussion

Liliana Roman-Hamilton Feb 28, 2007:
Sorry for the blunder Michel! :-[ I agree with Heinrich, something is missing after "and".
Anton Baer Feb 28, 2007:
@Craig: Right. I meant the 'and. San Diego.' wasn't slang.
Craig Meulen Feb 28, 2007:
The first sentence "“XXX is like...awesome!" is completely normal slang, the like is a superfluous "filler" word.
Other than that, I'm with HeinrichB - ask the client or typesetter what the next three lines should say.
Michel A. (asker) Feb 28, 2007:
@Lilliana: WA GUY is a painter sponsored by this company (as mentioned above) :-) Even the first sentence sounds awkward to me, what about your american ears?
Anton Baer Feb 28, 2007:
Michel, definitely a puzzle for the client or original 'typesetter' to sort out. Something missing. This isn't slang.

my idea

I think WA Guy could be a nickname for a person coming from Washington state (USA): Guy from Washington.

My 2 cents. HTH

and I also think that Cheerleader from Texas is a nick. Probably they are just showing some feedback notes left by sports fans. SO there is Cheerleader from Texas, Washington Guy (WA Guy), and another one from San Diego in Califronia.

formatting error?

Maybe the brochure was generated somewhat hastily (or maybe you're working from text extracted from a PDF, which can create strange concatentations).

Have a look a the following site:

"Victoria and I are naming our next child 'Fine Thing' ... David ... England"
W.A. GUY (2005)

Your 'testimonials' appear to be short phrases quoted from the original texts.
