Creo que remained tiene el sentido de quedar.,No es que la educación fue delegada por otros a la familia sino que quedó en la familia, nunca salió de allí.

I think that this is how the equivalent of the Spanish original would tend to be expressed in English, with "entrusted" being just a tad too formal to qualify as sounding natural in such a sentence.

This may seem like hairsplitting, but producing fine translations is often a matter of striving to improve on a very good solution, as Henry's and Mike's undoubtedly is.
