We've had this before in FR > EN, I think.
I suspect 'main screw' is just what it is labelled, but someone is trying to be very precise in then describing it (correctly!) as an auger (augur is a very common spelling mistake, compounded by the fact that the word does actually exist, albeit with a different meaning, and so spell-chckers won't reject it).

Note that on the occasions when I have heard this term used by people working in the industry, they habitually call it a 'vis sans fin', and look completely blank when I tell them that its proper technical name is 'vis d'Archimède', which they seem never to have heard of!

This is kind of supported by the number of Google hits each receives: some 19,000 for 'd'archimède' and 79,000 for 'sans fin' (of course, those figures don't take into account red herrings).
This rather plaintive quote from Wikipedia confirms the usage:
Vis d'Archimède - Wikipédia
