Quite possibly, Florence — but we really need fuller context to know for sure, otherwise the translation could be completely wrong! And I'm worried by that "...on the longest run of between pulleys" — the 'of' seems out of place to me?

For example, is this 'lateral movement' a deliberate part of the action, or a necessary / undesirable feature? And what is running between pulleys: a chain, a belt, a rope... or something else again? All these are likely to affect the translation.

Je suppose qu'il s'agit d'évaluer cette flèche pour savoir si la tension du brin (courroie, chaîne, etc.) entre deux poulies est correcte ou non. Voir les site ci-dessous pour le mot « brin », suffisamment général pour représenter tous les cas de figure.
