Non-PRO English Bus/Financial Economics
factors determining market position/positions of companies

which one is correct?
urghhhh...;)

Discussion

allp (asker) Feb 28, 2008:
It's a long sentence and I'm still working on it, so it's definitely not perfect yet. I may have to turn it around somehow. Anyway, I was puzzled by the singular/plural question.

The ongoing globalization and regionalization processes, combined with revolution in information and telecommunication technologies as well as resulting liberalization, are changing, among others, the face of competition and the network of factors determining the status of individuals, market position of companies and competitive standing of whole economies.

Selected

factors affecting [the] companies' positioning in the market[place] / market positioning

any of these should do, depending on your context...

confidence level since we need a bit more context :-)

OK, in that case, something like

the series of factors affecting/determining the status of individuals, the market position of companies and the competitive standing/competitiveness of whole economies.

Each company only has one market position, though these positions naturally differ.

Re: position / positioning

I think position would be better here than positioning, as I had suggested earlier. Positioning is used more for marketing and has a slightly different meaning than the one used here.

neutral Jennifer Levey : "Each company only has one market position" - Except if a company is operating in more than one market - then it will have two or more positionS. And as you yourself ack., positionING is something different.
