According to the 2005-2015 Institutional Strategic Plan, the latest challenge for the institution is to become the protagonist in the recovery of the country with ambitions of grandeur.
Spanish source: Según el Plan Estratégico Institucional 2005-2015, el nuevo desafío de la institución es el de ser protagonista de la recuperación de un país con ambición de grandeza.
My gut feeling tells me that "ambition of grandeur is incorrect". "Visions of grandeur" seems more natural, but I'm not sure if it's correct in this context.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

: No, definitely not. Illusions of grandeur means you think you're more important than you really are.

perhaps just "ambitions of greatness" or "aspiring to greatness" then.

I'm looking for something a little less wordy - that pictifies the idea. Thanks for your suggestion though... |

visions of grandeur .. or .. high aspirations
I believe that "visions of grandeur" is a correct, legitimate option. The country has visions, hopes, aspirations, and the challenge for this institution is to meet these "high aspirations."

: I would probably agree with you about 'visions of grandeur' if I were American. 'High aspirations' would work in British English.

Thanks, David. High aspirations also works in US English- very commonly used and accepted.

aspiration(s) towards greatness
This is a common phrase I have used from time to time as an economic planner, corresponding to the idea here presented.
"According to the Strategic Institutional Plan 2005-2015, the new challenge of the institution is that of being a protagonist in the recovery of a country with aspirations towards greatness."
There are numerous online references to this stock phrase.
