Het is belangrijk dat de hulpverlener verandertaal uitlokt, weerstand niet bestrijd en uiteindelijk een veranderplan opstelt waar de cliënt het mee eens is.

Is there a standard term for this in English? Thanks!

"verandertaal uitlokken" Isn't this just a technique to get 'clients' to talk about changing their behaviour. E.g. "Verandertaal valt uiteen in vier categorieën: de nadelen van de status quo onderkennen; de voordelen van verandering onderkennen; optimisme over verandering onder woorden brengen; de bedoeling om te veranderen onder woorden brengen" (http://tinyurl.com/yeslyhf ). I think the actual behavioural change comes later. I'm no expert though ;-) Would be interesting to hear thoughts from others.

Met het uitlokken van verandertaal wordt bedoeld het uitlokken van een taal waarin de client zijn problemen onder ogen ziet, waarin die zijn situatie als zorgelijk ziet en die wil veranderen en waarin hij inziet dat zijn leven er beter op wordt als hij verandert.

Het gaat om het op gang brengen van een bewustwordingsproces, waarbij het algemene karakter van de taal van de client evolueert in een richting die duidt op een bereidheid te willen veranderen: verandertaal.

Dat is nu precies hét kenmerk van zeker zijn: oogkleppen op hebben. :) Socrates zei het al: "Ik weet niets". Ja, ik wist waar ik wilde zoeken. Interessante man trouwens die William Richard Miller (volgens mij sterk beïnvloed door Rogers).

self-motivating statements

If you read English sources on Motivational Interviewing (MI), this is a term that comes up quite a bit and seems to cover the same ground as 'verandertaal'.

I wrote 'self-motivating statements' as my answer, while most MI resources refer to 'self-motivational statements'. I don't think there's any essential difference in meaning, although it may be better to stick with 'self-motivational' in this specific context.

change in emotional vocabulary

Only read about this recently in Marisa Peer's 'Ultimate Confidence'. It is about changing the words we use to describe how we feel about ourselves, which is related to our motivation but in my opinion not the same as 'self-motivating statements'.
