English term

Continuous Operation with Short-Time Loading

English to German Tech/Engineering Medical: Instruments
This is listed as the operational mode of a system, per industry standard classifications.
My problem: There seem to be 5 classifications in English but up to 8 in German. And it is not easily apparent which one fits. Who can help?

Discussion

Elke Dr. Ruchalla Feb 15, 2010:
Thank you , Susanne -- it is soooooo nice to read that I'm right :-) Or in DE: Danke dir für deinen netten Beitrag.

Though, Angelika is not better off now -- so my recommendation is: Write a comment for your client, Angelika, and tell him/her our considerations. It's only positive, if he/she knows you are keeping in mind patients‘ (and client‘s) safety.

Susanne Schiewe Feb 15, 2010:
Elke is right It's in fact not a good idea to provide a translation without knowing what it's all about. So I better hide mine :-)
Elke Dr. Ruchalla Feb 15, 2010:
Maybe Susanne is right -- she probably is -- but that seems to be a medical-legal(!!) problem (or is it not?) -- and so never ever would I recommend such a translation (or any other translation, BTW) without reassurement by client and asking whatever the h... he/she is speaking of.

Sorry, no better answer available -- good luck
AngelikaJP (asker) Feb 15, 2010:
An x-ray system.
Steffen Walter Feb 15, 2010:
Type of system? Which type of system/instrument/equipment are we talking about here?

Thus, the diameter of the path of the focal spot is substantially equally to the diameter of the disc, which in itself enables the short-time loading to exceed that obtainable in the conventional tubes in which the rotation shaft extends parallel to the electron path and in which the diameter of the path of the focal spot must be smaller than the disc diameter by about 20 percent.

Introduction
Sufficient experimental and theoretical evidence exists to show that shear bands in shock loaded solids are related to the local overheating and softening of materials due to an intensive short-time loading and /or low thermal conductivity (Swegle et al. 1985).

Mechanical tests had been performed on the superplastic Sn-5wt.%Bi alloy by Valiyev et al [8] under various conditions of deformations such as short time loading with increasing strain rates and rapid release of the load.

2.10.4 CONTINUOUS OPERATION WITH SHORT-TIME LOADING: Operation in which EQUIPMENT is connected continuously to the SUPPLY MAINS. The stated permissible loading time is so short that the long term on-load operating temperature is not attained. The ensuing interval is, however, sufficiently long for cooling down to the long term no-load operating temperature.

This reminds me the definition of "Betriebsarten"

http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nennbetriebsart

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Vielen Dank!
