English term

which user is currently accessing the plan that is to be opened

English to French Tech/Engineering IT (Information Technology)
The corresponding dialog contains the information which user is currently accessing the plan that is to be opened

As far as I can read it, this is the general sense of the source text, and I can't see how it can be interpreted any other way.

It does rather depend on the context, however, as how best to formulate it in FR. For example, if the fact that some other user is already accessing this 'plan' means that the current user (reading this message) may not also access the 'plan', then it might be better to say '...au plan dont l'ouverture est demandée'

The EN is not terribly well written; it might be easier to follow if it had been punctuated thus:

"The corresponding dialog contains the information: which user is currently accessing the plan that is to be opened"

Of course in simple, non-geeky language, we might just say:

"The corresponding dialog tells you which user is currently accessing the plan that is to be opened"

Everything hinges, of course, on the true significance of "that is to be opened" — i.e. is is this person who wants / needs / is trying to open it; or is it the system that needs to open it in order for this user to be able to carry on doing what they are trying to do?

It's the plan that is to be opened

I think it's pointless trying to copy the rather stilted phrasing of the source text, why not just say:

"...indique lequel utilisateur accède actuellement au plan à ouvrir"

?
Note from asker:
Merci.
Peer comment(s):

OK, I leave it you FNS to formulate it correctly, but this does at least give the correct interpretation of the source text.

Merci, Philippe !
neutral writeaway : why 'doit'. don't see 'devoir' in the Eng at all /point taken, thanks TM. Having said that, I still prefer the à ouvrir for Fr.

In this sort of technical context 'is to be' often = 'needs to be' or 'must be'; but the 'à ouvrir' option is also there if you prefer. / Yes, I think it's preferable, though there are also other interesting options, including use of a noun: 'ouverture'

English term (edited): (The dialog contains) information which user is currently accessing the plan that is to be opened

Note from asker:
Merci
Peer comment(s):

agree Tony M : OK, in that case, I misunderstood your suggestion, sorry! To me 'informations sur' meant 'information about', but if it also means 'about which', then that's OK.

Good heavens, and I thought my suggestion meant exactly yours! Then I don't get the which bit. To me it read "info about which user is", close (admittedly not identical) to "info about the user who is". What if I state that user ID IS information?

Peer comment(s):

disagree Tony M : Sorry, but as it stands, I just don't see how the s/t can be interpreted that way, without adding a word or more. / Nope, still not: that just isn't what it means, I'm afraid!
