"The heavy fertilizer applications during the rapid grow-in period can be overdone, causing excessive thatch. Micronutrients should be added during the initial seeding using a granular material to guard against excessive leaching, especially on sand-based greens and tees. (Remember, grow-in fertilization is just the opposite of routine maintenance!)
