I appealed the decision on XXXX on the grounds that I nwas permanently resident in Great Britain and there was a pending application in that jurisdiction in relation to civil proceedings, which had not been properly considered by the court when deciding on whether to suspend the divorce pending determination of the foreign proceedings.

In Russian "to suspend proceedings" means "приостанавливать производство". It seems to me that in foreigh law there is no difference between suspending and adjourning the divorce proceedings.
In Russian legislation "suspendind proceeedings" (приостановить производство) means a temporary cease of proceedings when there are some interfering conditions or facts beyond control of the parties or the court.
In the same time "adjourning" (откладываение) means postponing the substantive consideration of the case.
