القعدد
here means the nearness of relationship to the paternal grandfather, not just the grandfather or ancestor. Accordingly, it will be decided who has the right to inherit due to such nearness.

In Lisan Al `Arab
والمِيراث القُعْدُدُ: هو أَقربُ القَرابَةِ إِلى الميت. قال سيبويه: قُعْدُدٌ ملحق بجُعْشُمٍ، ولذلك ظهر فيه المثلان.وفلان أَقْعَد من فلان أَي أَقرب منه إِلى جده الأَكبر، وعبر عنه ابن الأَعرابي بمثل هذا المعنى فقال: فلان أَقْعَدُ من فلان أَي أَقلُّ آباء.
