English term

sucker (en este contexto)

English to Spanish Science Agriculture Plagas - Xylella fastidiosa - Olivo

"Indeed, mandatory actions to control vector populations are in place in the demarcated areas. These include (i) at the ground level, mechanical weeding in winter and/or spring, to mow down or cultivate native flora and other vegetation where spittlebug nymphs thrive before adult emergence; (ii) at the canopy level, apply pesticides to olives to kill the adults of P. spumarius that feed on ***suckers*** and on the crown of trees,"

Kirsten Larsen (X) Nov 20, 2018:

o laterals:
"A lateral is a shoot that grows in the V shape between the main stem and a leaf."

chupón

I know this because relatives of mine have a tomato greenhouse and I've helped them remove the extraneous suckers.

In botany, a 'sucker' is a plant growing not from a seed but from a meristem of the root at the base or at a certain distance from a tree or shrub

It's definitely what they're called here in Mexico, though I can't vouch for Spain.
Note from asker:
Yep, in Spain too, but I'm awarding the points to Idoia for her note about "estolones". Thanks for the help again :)
