deep reactive ion etching a micropattern of trenches (2106) on a surface of a substrate (2100), the trenches (2106) corresponding to negative areas of a plurality of spirals (3020, 3030, 5020, 5030, 7020, 7030, 9020, 9030, 1120) in the medical thin-film mesh (110) to be formed, wherein each of the plurality of spirals comprises a plurality of spiral arms (3040, 3050, 5040, 5050, 7040, 7050, 9040, 9050, 1140);
depositing a lift-off layer (2108) on the etched substrate;
depositing a first Nitinol layer (2110) over the lift-off layer (2108); and
etching the lift-off layer (2108) to form the medical thin-film mesh (110).
