German term
eine Schoh danach
German to English
Social Sciences
General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters
From a 1940 letter, written in Vienna by a Jewish woman to her sister and brother-in-law (Konrad) in New York:
Freuen würden wir uns, wenn er [Rabbiner Julius Max Bach] sein Versprechen Dir gegenüber, lieber Konrad, verwirklichen würde. Aber glauben werden wir daran erst "eine Schoh danach."
There is no additional context, as everything preceding and following these two sentences concerned other topics.

die Scho - eine Stunde: Jiddisches WB, Duden Taschenbücher.
> schoh with an 'h' as an alternative spelling, as in 'ich ka' scho(h)' = ich komme schon in Bayerisch that I happened to have once heard in Berchtesgarden, of all places.
Pity the matching Discussion Entry, albeit with a different and IMO phonetic spelling, couldn't have been posted as an answer but thanks everyone for 'waiting' for my answer.

Discussion
Thanks a lot for the confirmation and the very interesting tidbit of information; always here to learn something new--and so I did!
@Phil
After rereading the sentence:
Could very well be! I didn't find a proverb or biblical reference to explain the saying (didn't search long this time, though) but I think that Martina's suggestion would've been good enough. Unfortunately, the Q is now closed.
Best wishes

Cf. "Sprichwörter und Redensarten deutsch-jüdischer Vorzeit..." (p. 261) by Abraham M. Tendlau on GBooks. The author of that book also lists "schaah" as an alternative spelling, I guess, for "Stunde" (which may be easier to look for online).
Unfortunately, since I need to work today too, I'm a bit preoccupied and can't think of anything suitable right now. But maybe this helps.
