الدرس حرف

Arabic to English Art/Literary Idioms / Maxims / Sayings Maxims
Hi,

I think that the general meaning must be that in order to learn something one must do a lot of repetition.

However, in الدرس حرف والتکرار الف, I don't really understand the meaning of الدرس حرف - the English translation "the lesson is a letter" doesn't really make sense. Please explain.

Best

YES, even if the lesson is so short, it must be repeated.....

حرف - I rephrase Perhaps something like "no more than a single letter". I.e. "though the lesson be so short that it only consists of no more than a single letter, it must still be repeated a thousand times"?

learn a little, repeat a lot

It means though the lesson may be small, you still have to repeat it a thousand times.

Practice makes perfect.

You get the lesson just once, so you should practise it (repeat it as many times as you can) to learn.
"Practice makes perfect" means that the more you practice, the better you will become.
