Arabic term
boutlan
Arabic to English
Other
Law (general)
This term actually appears in a French document I am translating in reference to Islamic law. ("Boutlan" is how it is spelled in French, it may be spelled differently in English.). The French text describes this a a non-existent or void "acte" and "acte" in French could either be "document" or "act" in legalese. So I'm wondering if an Arabic speaker can enlighten me as the the meaning of the word. Thanks!

Randa2 is right. The term in Arabic applies to both \"Document\" and \"Act\".

"Boutlan: Nonexistent [document/act??], absolute nullity."
So, since the word "acte" in French can mean either "document" or "act" in English, I'm trying to figure out which one it is, based on what the word actually means in Arabic.
