Danish term

sl.

Danish to English Social Sciences History
In reading the book "Helsingør i sundtoldstiden 1426-1857," I've run across the abbreviation "sl." which I haven't figured out. It is used where I would expect the word "wife," "widow" or "daughter," etc., but I really have no idea what it stands for...

Examples: "...og Inger sl. Per Aagesens, der er i Færgemandslavet, har Sildebaad og Jolle..."

"Og i Hjørnestedet sidder Ide sl. (Borgmester) Corfitz Brams..."

I agree that sl. could mean "slægtning" ("slægtning" is often used in censuses), but I'm not sure in this context. I'd suggest that you contact the Danish National Archives: [email protected] or telephone (+45) 33 92 33 10 Monday-Thursday 12 - 3 p.m., Friday 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.

@ Tomasz Sienicki I thought it might be "slægtning" (kinswoman of...), but it's strange they didn't use the word for wife or widow to be more precise. I know Ide was the wife/widow of Corfitz Bram, and "slægtning" seems like someone who could be related in many different ways.

slægten / i slægt med? slægten / i slægt med?
