Danish term
kan-krav
Danish to English
Other
Management
Does anyone know the English term for kan-krav, please? The context is occupational health and safety management.
The text:
"Kerneopgaven = skal-krav
Kerneopgaven er det, vi SKAL opfylde. Det er de krav, arbejdsgiveren betaler for at få opfyldt.
Ekstra opgaver = kan-krav
Udover skal-kravene er der også en række opgaver, som vi gerne vil nå. Det kalder vi kan-krav."

nice-to-have OR desirable
In this context I would suggest translating "skal-krav"/"kan-krav" like this:
More informal "must-have"/"nice-to-have"
More formal "essential"/"desirable"
More informal "must-have"/"nice-to-have"
More formal "essential"/"desirable"

Christine Andersen
: ´Must-have´ or ´need-to-have´ and ´nice-to-have´ are very widespread standard expressions used in similar contexts to ´skal-krav´ and ´kan-krav´.

Note from asker:
Thank you very much for your excellent links, Andres. However, as noted in a previous entry, I know that "skal-krav" is "shall requirement"/the term to use in this context. I am looking for the English term for "kan-krav". Would it be "can requirement" or "may requirement", for example? I just need the "official" English term for "kan-krav". |
Discussion
In response to your comment:
"Shall – Requirement: Shall is used to indicate a requirement that is contractually binding, meaning it must be implemented, and its implementation verified."
https://argondigital.com/blog/product-management/using-the-c...
I have never come across "shall requirement", whereas "must-have" is widely used (like Christine mentioned) and is in various dictionaries.
Example sentence "Separate them into three categories: Must Have; Nice to Have; and Luxury to Have."
(Link: https://www.lawinsider.com/dictionary/nice-to-have )
If "shall requirement" is the translation stipulated by the client, you might want to check where it came from?
Anyway, just my suggestion - your decision :-)
