English term

Fall back

English to French Tech/Engineering Computers: Software
This is the GUI of an email software (such as Thunderbird or Outlook)

Context:

"A fall back restore account has not been chosen"

I sort of understand this as an account that has been deactivated but that the owner, for some reason decided to reactivate it. The probelm is that I can't find a French equivalent.
Your help would be much appreciated.

Discussion

Gisele Latour Aug 14, 2010:
Compte de restauration sounds good.
M. El Kadimi (asker) Aug 14, 2010:
Here's what I found further down. I guess this might help. So far, I am only using "Compte de récupération/restauration".

[Quote]
When [Name of Program] restores an email it will try to send it through the outgoing server of the account it was deleted from. However, if this fails [Name of Program] will then attempt to restore the email through the selected account. Only email accounts with completed SMTP settings can be selected.
[End of Quote]
It sounds like the user, when restoring a deleted email, they can restore it to one of the existing accounts - not necessarily the one from which it was deleted.
Arnold T. Aug 14, 2010:
Fallback I think they add fallback to emphasise that not only they do that restore to the account but the account is operational for the user ( fallback from the old account ).
Gisele Latour Aug 14, 2010:
I think fallback is mainly used for server/connexion problems. I understand it as a replacement account when a connexion problem occurs.

Hi Canalgi, good to see you're here, too! :)
Thank you and Arnold007 for your help. I tried "compte de récupération" which roughly amounts to the same thing, but then, why fall back? "Restore account" tells the story, doesn't it?
