Not so much just trying it out, and with, I believe, a better feel in French than testing things out.
Although, perhaps other parts of the document suggest that it is more like 'trying it out' in a more casual, curiosity-driven approach, than 'experimenting' in a more methodical sense. In which case I'd say that FX is more on the ball here.
So, I suggest: Experimenter avec des comportements alternatifs.
