: I don't believe that reflects the real sense of the S/T here: the specific use of 'groupings' suggests certain emotions etc. when occurring in conjunction with others.

Both, I had thought of both. Grouping is used mostly in the sense I gave though, otherwise we speak of clusters (of symptoms for instance). My idea was that the predominant type (group) of emotion helped diagnose a condition. But you may be right.
