Sheila Wilson Sep 17, 2016:
There's a lot of hidden meaning behind the words Not only have "comfortable shoes" always been worn by those who are considered frumpish, it's almost seemed necessary in the past for shoes to be UNcomfortable if they are to be fashionable. Think stilettoes, winklepickers...
NATHALIE BOUJUT (asker) Sep 16, 2016:
Thank you Tony and Isabelle for your valuable help.

I have just posted another question:

When it comes to all-day comfort, our xxx™ men's and women's boots have got sole

I am not sure about "have got soles"

Could you please help?

Thank you :-)
Tony M Sep 16, 2016:
@ Asker I think there may be 2 problems with your proposal:

1) 'comfortable shoes' is a loaded expression in EN; it doesn't just mean 'shoes that are comofrtable'; there is a whole connotation of not stylish / not fashionable shoes and a definite sense of un-coolness. I don't know whether this can be conveyed in FR simply by enclosing the expression in « » ? It's a bit like the same idea the other way round with « la petite robe noir », which conveys a great deal more than just 'a small dress that happens to be black'!

2) (as Isabelle has pointed out) 'just got cool' doesn't only mean they are more stylish than they were before; indeed, some of them might have been stylish all the time. It's all about the fact that it is now cool to be seen wearing them (whereas it definitely wasn't before!)

quand confortable veut dire tendance
