XXX has risen to a top spot in the league table for announced M&A in Asia after years outside the top 10.

“Over the years, our firm has increased its focus on M&A to the point where it is now very high,” YY told the publication. “And having been brought in to build the business in Asia, I have done so by hiring externally but also importantly by transferring people internally.

YY is reflective on XXX’s strong league table position, noting that other factors may be more important when pitching to clients. “League tables, tombstones and the like are relevant to proving your qualifications and you need them in order to be considered by a client. But when it comes to being selected for a mandate, it’s about the quality of people you put in front of that client,” he said.

“When you have been out here for a while as I have it would be difficult not to be bullish,” YY says of the prospects for Asian M&A. “The market has really progressed, most notably in the ever increasing number of outbound M&A deals.” Key market drivers include growing economies, strong access to capital and increasing levels of sophistication, in his view.

XXX’s success in M&A follows a number of years in which the investment banking fee pool had been geared largely towards capital markets. It confirms the success of XXX’s continued investment in its Asian M&A platform and leaves XXX well-positioned to further develop trusted, ***content-led relationships*** among regional clients.
