Es handelt sich um eine Szene in einem Roman. Die Heldin versucht, eine Tür aufzubrechen:

"... she set down the tool kit and took out an electric pick gun and a feathertouch, coil-spring tension bar ..."

Also, ich habe schon rausgefunden, dass "tension bar" beim Lockpicking auch "tension tool" heißt und auf Deutsch "Spanner". Und im englischen Wikipedia-Eintrag (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lock_picking) ist von einem "feather touch wrench" die Rede, das scheint das Gleiche zu sein wie mein Suchbegriff. Leider fehlt dieser Teil im deutschen Eintrag (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockpicking).

Lesen hier Schlossknacker mit? Wie heißt dieses Werkzeug auf Deutsch? Vielen Dank, Olaf

@Rolf The tool on the US-websites is described as a tension tool. The way I understand it is that the leverage of the working end of it holds the tumblers in the lock in place to allow the picking tool to do its work. This is also mentioned as being a very delicate process requiring a minimum of tension (provided by the coil spring?) and very little manual movement of the tool.

Das stimmt, aber:

Duden gibt für "spannen" u. a. die Bedeutung "festklemmen", und genau das passt hier. Spannung (tension) tritt dabei eigentlich kaum auf: Die Schlossteile kann man als starre Körper betrachten, die aufgewendete Handkraft ist winzig klein, praktisch dient der Spanner nur zum Erzeugen einer Reibungskraft.

Bei den Spannern mit Spiralfeder tritt im Spanner (genauer: in der Feder) natürlich eine Spannung auf .

BTW:
Spanner here comes from Spannen (to tension) and has nothing to do with Schraubenschlüssel (which is a misnomer in itself)

The problem is that I can't find a single German Website that shows a lock picking spanner with a coil.
I meant "wrench" of course, not "spanner".
