FWIW, 7130 Google hits für Gebührenzähler, and maybe I should explain my remark above to avoid misunderstandings. You said \"in telecom there often is NOT\" - The former Deutsche Bundespost was notorious for their creation of long, funny-sounding technical terms.
Germany's giant telco company probably refers to it as "Gebührenimpulszähleinrichtungsschaltung". :-)

just a guess, does the metering refer to the call itself or to the duration of call? If the last one applies, then it might even be an "Anrufdauermessgerät"

A Deutsche Telekom person once asked me whether I have a Einheitenzähler on my phone. Just a guess, though.
