I believe your text is referring to the shape of an American football, fat in the middle and rather pointed at either end. I do not think I have come across such an expression in German. You may have to use some descriptive term as above.

Ganz einfach: der Stapel wird auseinander gezogen und damit höher. Ich sagte ja bereits... ein etwas anderer Blickwinkel. Eiförmig ist die einzelne Zeitung. Stelle dir mal 10 davon übereinander vor.
