Leavening agent
A leavening agent (also leavening or leaven, pronounced /ˈlɛvənɪŋ/, /ˈlɛvən/) is any one of a number of substances used in doughs and batters that cause a foaming action which lightens and softens the finished product.

इनको Leavening agent भी कहते हैं, जो गुंथे हुये आटे (किसी अनाज के) या लपसी में ख़मीर उठाने के काम आता है।

किसी गुंथे हुये आटे (किसी अनाज के) या लपसी में इस एजेंट की अधिक मात्रा का उपयोग करने से यह उसकी सतह को अत्यधिक फुला देता है और कई बार भीतर बनी अतिरिक्त गैस को बाहर निकलने के लिये इसकी सतह को फोड़ कर बाहर निकलना पड़ता है।
