In drama, a speech directed to the audience that supposedly is not audible to the other characters onstage at the time. When Hamlet first appears onstage, for example, his aside "A little more than kin, and less than kind!" gives the audience a strong sense of his alienation from King Claudius.

एकांतकथन जब प्रचलित ही है तो फिर नया शब्द बनाने की जरूरत समझ में नहीं आती। ललित जी से मैं पूर्णतया सहमत हूँ. स्वगत-कथन का तब उपयोग किया जाता है जब पात्र अपने आपसे ही बात कर रहा होता है। जब वह दर्शकों को सुनाने के लिए कह रहा हो तब एकांतकथन ठीक है।

I agree with Lalit Ji now, after his clarification If it is established in Hindi Drama as such, as Lalit Ji has explained, I agree with Lalit Ji that there is no need to create any new term when the one in vogue is well-understood and clearly conveys the meaning.

एकांतकथन और स्वगत-कथन में अंतर रमेश जी की बात से मैं सहमत नहीं हूँ। पहली बात, एकांतकथन और स्वगत-कथन में अंतर होता है। दूसरे, रंगमंच की शब्दावली से प्रबुद्ध हिंदीभाषी भलीभाँति परिचित है इसलिए प्रचलित शब्दों के लिए कोई नया शब्द तलाशने की कोई सार्थकता नहीं है। हिंदी रंगमंच में ASIDE और SOLILOQUY दोनों का प्रयोग होता रहा है यानी 1.अन्य पात्रों से अलग हटकर किसी पात्र का दर्शकों को संबोधित करते हुए एकांतकथन या एकालाप (ASIDE) और 2. अपने आप से बात या संवाद - स्वगत-कथन (SOLILOQUY)।

I think a new term needs to coined here पात्र-दर्शक गोप्य कथन/संचार is what I would choose for the term. एकांतकथन, एकालाप and स्वगत कथन are basically of the same nature in their conveying the meaning, and they do not clarify that Characters of the Play do not know what the audience have been ACTIVELY informed about. As far bringing the information home to the audience PASSIVELY is concerned, the terms very well signify that.

आत्मालाप Aside के लिए उपयुक्त नहीं आत्मालाप या आत्मसंवाद या स्वगत-कथन एक ही हैं। जिसमें नाटक का कोई पात्र मंच पर अपने से ही बात कर रहा होता है। वह दर्शकों को सीधा संबोधित नहीं कर रहा होता। इसे अंग्रेज़ी में Soliloquy कहते हैं।

एकांतकथन, एकालाप

ASIDE और SOLILOQUY में अंतर होता है। ASIDE का अर्थ एकांतकथन या एकालाप है। जबकि SOLILOQUY के लिए स्वगत-कथन का प्रयोग होता है। स्वगत-कथन या आत्मालाप या आत्मसंवाद एक ही हैं। SOLILOQUY में नाटक का कोई पात्र मंच पर अपने से ही बात कर रहा होता है। वह दर्शकों को सीधा संबोधित नहीं कर रहा होता।
इसलिए ASIDE के लिए एकांतकथन या एकालाप का प्रयोग किया जाना चाहिए।
