The product withdrawal, stock recovery and correction classifications are established by the company. In the case of a product recall, the FDA will determine whether a Class I, II or III classification is appropriate.
a. Class I Recall
A Class I Recall is implemented in a situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of or exposure to a product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death. Product which falls into this classification should be returned from the consumer, as well as from the trade.
