English term

Had a good rummage through my kit?

Not for points English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature slang
Whodunit. The inspector talks to a suspect, which is an undercover policeman.
The policeman says "Had a good rummage through my kit, I imagine?"
What's more likely:
1- I imagine you examined my belonging very well.
2- I imagine you thought very well about what I said in my previous inteview.

The policeman speaks in 1930's american jargon. I'm pretty sure it's 1, but I'm kinda tired :)

Thank you!

Sorry, no further context (http://www.proz.com/post/445544)

Aha Alain. If this is a PRO level question, it will be nice of you when you make it "for point". It'll be a small gift compared to knowledge shared by participants. But, well, it's within your privilege to make it "not for point".
Alain Dellepiane (asker) Oct 29, 2006:
Yep Exact, I just figured out it's actually a British colonel. I said that I'm kinda tired :)
Kim Metzger Oct 29, 2006:
As an American, I can assure you that "had a good rummage through my kit" is not American jargon. Kit in this context is pure British English.

Had a good look/haphazard but thorough search through my bag.

And Kim is correct, it is chiefly British.
