biography of dramatist
I don't understand the phrase fully. Does "physical" refer to the body of the dramatist or something else? What does the phrase mean as a whole?
Context:
"Within the framework of the comedy of manners, he attempted to reconcile a deep-seated puritanism with his ardent physical nature." (from William Wycherley's biography article)
Thanks in advance.

passionate sexual nature
I think "physical" here is a euphemism for "sexual". Another such euphemism might be "romantic".

passionate and rough personality
I think the above phrase means a person who has a passionate, sometimes aggressive and rough personality.
With this personality, William Wycherley tried to harmonize a deep-seated puritanism with his personality within the framework of how comedies should be performed or taken as.
