implicit memory
Hi,
I’m not entirely sure about the meaning of “map” in the following passage taken from a book on parenting. I think it may have a literal meaning, maybe “define/determine our map of reality” (our representation/vision of reality). What’s your opinion?
Thanks in advance for any hint!

Although we’re not aware we are being shaped by them, implicit memories work together with your explicit memories every day. Our implicit memories often * map * our current reality:
- (implicit memory) Creates mental models or expectations about the world based on what has gone on in the past—shaping how we feel, how we think, what we believe, and even how we perceive things right now.

Our implicit memories often create a mental template that determines our psychological experience.
This is the meaning of "map" here.

Of course, "template" being used in an entirely metaphorical sense here.
