Can anyone help me out here?

Discussion

(Then the Gene Tierney part follows)
RHELLER Jun 5, 2005:
what is the sentence before Gene Tierney? what is "la mme rference"?

runs from one production to the next

Hard to tell without more of the context, but this is what it suggests to me (or perhaps "extends from one production to the next", in the sense of covering a period of time under discussion).

crops up in production after production

Surely 'la même réference' is Sunset Boulevard, and here 'même' doesn't mean 'the same (as previously mentioned)', but rather 'one single...'

I would interpret it as meaning:

"There's one reference, Sunset Boulevard..., that crops up in production after production" (OR: 'film after film')
