French term

projet de sulfuré profond

French to English Tech/Engineering Geology Mining Operations
Hi - I am translating a contract which is dealing with a Mining operation in Mali.

I keep coming across 'projet de sulfuré profond' or another example: 'découvert d'importants gisements de sulfuré profond'

I have been researching endlessly and cannot find the English term or what this means exactly.
Could it be 'Sulphate concentration'

Literally, I am guessing 'deep sulphate' - but I dont think that is it. Sulphate layer?

Any help greatly appreciated,
TIA.

Yes Chris - why did I not see that?! Thank you so much for your time, that is exactly what I was looking for.

Do you want to post this as an answer?

See http://www.iamgold.com/Theme/IAmGold/files/operations/43-101... for deep sulphides in Mali - not too hard to find!

I'm no mining expert, but there seems to be an issue with terminology. A sulphide (eg iron or hydrogen sulphides) is just sulfure de fer, etc. not, apparently, "sulfuré". A sulphate is a different compound and is a "sulfate" (as in sulfate de cuivre). "Sulfuré" appears to be the adjectival form of sulphur, ie the very archaic "sulphuretted (hydrogen etc.)". My guess is that they are referring to deep deposits of sulphides.

Deep sulphides (project)

Note the ambiguous "é", which is not generally used to describe a sulphide.

"SULFIDE" for US readers only. Curiously, Canadians seem to use the British "ph"!
