thanks Cervin
neutral Melissa McMahon : problem is, a woman can have a sense of self-worth on many grounds (eg. as a human being, a teacher, mother etc.), but the source refers specifically to basing one's sense of self-worth in one's identity as a woman...

along these lines?????

understanding gender issues enables women better to fulfil their potential
Peer comment(s):

disagree veratek : with the ending - fulfill potential et se valoriser en tant que femme does not match in meaning

(understanding gender issues) enables women to value their own gender/ to value themselves as women

borrowing the beginning from CMJ... :-)
Peer comment(s):

agree B D Finch : Agree with your second suggestion rather than your first one. Or, to value oneself as a woman.

Thank you.
agree Melissa McMahon : yes, also prefer second suggestion. I don't have a problem with "valorise" instead of "value", but it depends on how intellectual the context is.

OR

enable one to develop as a woman

in the sense of "improve oneself" ("increasing the value of", "improving one's standing" (as in Collins Robert))

Peer comment(s):

neutral CMJ_Trans (X) : se valoriser = se mettre en valeur = derive value from,etc. NOT evaluate, especially given your confidence level

thanks, CMJ" I agree - in too much of a hurry! But not sure about "derive value from" either!
neutral veratek : agree with cmj

me too
neutral B D Finch : I liked your phrasing best, but unfortunately it should be "value" not "evaluate". Could this be an example of being inhibited about valuing oneself as a woman??
51 mins
Yes, quite probably! Why don't you post that as an answer? Meanwhile, I'll try to improve mine...

helps women to value and validate themselves.

Since we're talking "gender issues" why not use another handy catchword "validate"? (as in proving validity, worth).

"as women" at the end would be redundant, and is implied anyway by "themselves"
