German term

zurückstellen

German to English Law/Patents Finance (general) Garantiebrief
Full sentence (with identifying info left out):

Partial translation:

"This written request would need to reach the first defendant no later than 01.01.2001, otherwise the letter of guarantee would automatically lose all legal effect, ..."

My question: how does "zurückstellen" work here?

Regardless of whether the original of the letter of guarantee is returned to the first defendant or not.
This is an Austrian version of zurückgegeben.
