German term

Anhängsel

German to English Medical Medical (general) Foetal scanning
Foetal MRI scan report this time:

"Anhängsel" an der Nasenspitze von etwa 1 cm Durchmesser.

Is this just a "drip" or is it a more complex medical term? 1 cm seems an awfully big drip for a 30 week foetus' nose....

Many thanks!

Hildegard Klein-Bodenheimer (X) May 9, 2007:
Claire, Anhängsel isn't really a scientific name for what ever this fetus has. Maybe that's why they put it in commas.

appendage

It is just a guess without more context. But I think it might be some sort of attachment that isn't supposed to be at the tip of the nose, maybe some deformation. as I said just a guess.
Note from asker:
Thanks Hildegard - that's what I put in the first place, then I wondered if I was reading too much into it. The fact that it's in inverted commas in the original does make me suspicious....
Peer comment(s):

agree Gisela Greenlee : appendage was my first instinct also, my guess is that it's not thought to be something serious (malignant)
