Mag sein, das \"reichsunmittelbar\" den eigentlichen Sitz im Leben im Mittelalter hat. Der zitierte Autor - den es zu übersetzen gilt - bezieht die Bezeichnung auf die Panzergrenadierdivision \"Großdeutschland\" der Wehrmacht. Das mag Geschichtsrevisionismus sein, aber das ist die Wortwahl, um die es geht (auch wenn mancher es als \"Scheißthema\" empfindet). Als Sohn eines ehemaligen Waffen-SS-Soldaten läßt mich das Ganze dennoch sehr kalt.

: Als reichsunmittelbar wurden diejenigen Personen und Institutionen bezeichnet, die keiner anderen Herrschaft unterstanden, sondern direkt und unmittelbar dem Kaiser -- also dem Reich oder Fuehrer

: Die Panzer-Division "Großdeutschland" war eine so genannte Elite-Einheit. Im Übrigen waren alle Divisionen des Heeres "directly under command ..." Der hier verwendete Begriff "reichsunmittelbar" ist schlicht falsch.

"Falsch" klingt doch sehr apodiktisch; es gehörte ja zum Selbstverständnis des sog. Dritten Reiches, an die Tradition des Mittelalters und der Antike (Imperium romanum) anknüpfen zu wollen.

In general it seems to refer to something that is just one step below the highest authority, be it king, state, whatever. The fragment of the sentence offered as context is not really enough to make a useful suggestion on how exactly to build it into the sentence.

: They all were directly ... that was the idea of the Reich, wasn't it? "Reichsunmittelbar" refers to mediaeval times and has nothing to do with the structure of the so called "German Reich".
