The term is a lovely one, I know, and French has "la rose des vents".
If you're lookin for metaphoric impact, you culd keep it with a footnote in a tinier font, but my inclination would be to roll it over into "wind chart pattern".
"Geometrical" is superfluous and "pattern" is superior to "design" because the first underscores a design that comes again again & again.

la risposta windrose era corretta e la prima; dare spiegazioni su una cosa tanto banale.... quando è già detto dal testo, mi sembra una inutile perdita di tempo, visto che il tempo che dedichiamo è gratis e per venire incontro a chi ha bisogno.
