What about this?
5 mins
which has found expression in paint
an environment which has been carefully observed and has found expression in paint with painstaking attention to detail
12 mins
retraced in his painting(s)
Personally I like the use of the work retraced here as it gives the idea of actually walking thorugh his paintings, which have such detailed images of the places the painter is portraying.

4 hrs
evoked in his paintings
[... an environment he had studied/observed at length and meticulously] evoked in his paintings
4 hrs
reconstructed in the painting
"...a context studied at length and reconstructed in the painting with minute care..." - this is my interpretation of the sentence from an art historian's perspective....not literal a translation, I realize, but I do not believe that in this case a 1-to-1 translation captures the author's meaning.
