Italian term

fibula a navicella losangata

Italian to English Art/Literary Art, Arts & Crafts, Painting HIstory of castles
Si tratta della storia di un castello. Termine piuttosto tecnico. "Fibula" dovrebbe restare tale. Il problema grosso è "navicella" :)
Thank you a lot.

Discussion

Pierluigi Bernardini (asker) Jul 27, 2010:
Ok I think I will use this suggestion, as ship-shaped is a bit cacophonous!
Maybe I would add "lozenged", so "lozenged boat-shaped fibula", or do you think it is redundant?
Mr Murray (X) Jul 27, 2010:
Yes Yes, 'fibula' is also used in English - but, I thought it'd reach a wider audience other than archeologists, academics and scholars.
Pierluigi Bernardini (asker) Jul 27, 2010:
fibula well, in fact in English you can freely say "fibula":

I prefer to maintain it.
Jim Tucker (X) Jul 27, 2010:
Archeologists.... generally say "navicella fibula" in English. Makes it easy I guess. You can do "navicella (boat-shaped) fibula" if you like. Some scholars will even keep the Italian 100% in English: fibula a navicella.

I don't think the web reference I've posted here will help, the English doesn't sound so good to me.
