strong tactile texture
Ci provo! :)
Physical
Physical texture, also known as actual texture or tactile texture, are the actual variations upon a surface. This can include, but is not limited to, fur, wood grain, sand, smooth surface of canvas or metal, glass, and leather. It differentiates itself from visual texture by having a physical quality that can be felt by touch. Specific use of a texture can affect the smoothness that an artwork conveys. For instance, use of rough surfaces can be visually active, whilst smooth surfaces can be visually restful. The use of both can give a sense of personality to a design, or utilized to create emphasis, rhythm, contrast, etc.[1]

TACTILE TEXTURE
Tactile means touch. Tactile texture is the actual (3D) feel of a surface. This is of paramount importance to three-dimensional design but of only moderate interest in two-dimensional design.

: Yes, or "strong emphasis on the look and feel of materials," or anything along those lines. I don't think it's necessarily just the tactile texture.

Thanks Phil. It's just an option, it would be easier with an actual picture.

an important use of materials
Hi Paul,
I've found the following, see how it sounds for you ....
http://forleocollagetoday.wordpress.com/about/
I am an artist, an illustrator and a graphic designer. I’ve been working in the design field with passion and verve for over ten years. My works are all sharing a typical vintage look due to the use of recycled materials, faded colors, an important use of materials and a an overall old style. My images are at the same time the mean of transport to a parallel universe and a mediation to everyday life.

a strong materic effect / impact
"Materico" is technical jargon in art, and it refers to the use (and interpretation) of 'matter' as means for conveying sensations and messages far beyond shape, colours, lines and points.
Alberto Burri and Lucio Fontana are typical materic painters.

“ 'Concetto Spaziale' is an oil and resins on canvas with a strong materic effect in honour of the lagoonal city’s architectures and with a chromaticity ranging from white to golden in relation to the light and the water effects created by the canals"

"In order to create a rich materic effect with the elements in architectural concrete, and offer a token of the past, Tadao Ando selected the traditional Venetian floor (the so-called masegni) for the centre of the cube"

Also, search with "materic" in the following links:

http://www.saatchionline.com/art-collection/Mixed-Media/mate...
http://www.lightspacetime.com/artist-showcase/artist-showcas...
In this specific context, since the artist seems to use mixed media techniques ("riciclo di materiali"), "mixed media effect/impact" could perhaps be used as well. The two are not at all synonyms anyway (i.e. "materic" means something different from "mixed media").
For "mixed media", see the following:

... Yes, I know, it's a rare word, and it looks like MT from Italian. But if Saatchi and Saatchi (UK) and an American art gallery (US) use it, well... let's use it as well. No other word in English translates "materico", it's a widely know problem.
